Delta was first founded by Huff Daland Dusters in Macon, GA, but not so long after it was founded, the headquarters was moved to Monroe, LA. In 1927, Peru was offered by Huff Daland to provide a service for international mail and route for passengers in South America. CE Woolman was the one who renamed the company into Delta Air Service. The Delta word was meant to honor the Delta of Mississippi where the airplane served its services.

By the year of 1929, it was the first time for Delta to flight over a new route with passengers, from Dallas, Texas to Jackson, Miss. It carried a pilot and five passengers. As time goes by, the company started to expand its service and route, like the one that happened in the 1930s, where it serviced Atlanta for the first time. In the same year, it changed its name into Delta Airlines. In the 1940s, the headquarters was moved to another place: Atlanta. Some other things were also done during this period: put stewardesses abroad, flew cargos and offered coach class which was provided between Miami and Chicago.

Fast forward to the 1980s, Delta Airlines launched its first flyer program that became the Sky Miles. It also merged with another airline company: Western Airlines. During the 1990s, another routes was bought, that is Pan Am’s trans-Atlantic routes. In the 2000s, it added lots of new destinations and acquired Northwest Airlines. Now, Delta Air Lines offer a much wider services that it was in the past: 323 destinations in 57 countries. It even fleet more than 800 airplanes. Together with its alliance partners, there are more than 15,000 flights per day that can be chosen by the travelers.
